One Africa Music Fest New York 2019: The Highs, Lows And My Regrets!

Done and dusted is how I will describe 2019's One Africa Music Fest. It was held at the same venue at Ford Amphitheater at Coney Island Boardwalk on August 10th 2019. I almost did not make to this one but was glad I did attend even though I left unexpectedly.

The show was hosted by Banky W (as usual). He looked dapper in his shiny trads. I had a great time as usual. Last year's event was the best for me but I still had a great time. Zlatan Ibile, 2Baba and Tiwa Savage were missing in action. Here are my highs and lows.
The Lows

The DJs:

All those DJs that played prior to when the show started and in between did a poor job.  I can't even remember some of those that performed because they all sucked. They kept stopping the music for some useless commentary. They all kept interrupting the songs and bringing down the hype. If you want to switch to the next song there is a method to doing it so that the audience/listeners get more and more hyped. DJ Norie, I'm sorry but you didn't deliver.

Speed Darlington: (American based Nigerian)

I respect this guy's hustle and all but his performance made no sense at all.

The weed smokers

It smelled so horrible in the venue with all the weed smokers puffing and huffing. No idea why it was not banned in the first place. Geez!

HIGHS

Diamond Platnumz (Tanzania)

Dude came prepared and he delivered. I had no idea what his songs were all about but judging from the dance moves displayed on the stage, I was overly impressed. Energy was on a high.

Wyclef Jean (Haitian-American)

The legend blessed the whole crowd with oldies but goodies songs ranging from the songs he sang solely and the ones he was featured in like; '911', 'Sweetest girl', 'Ready or Not', 'Hips Don't Lie'. There were some pep talks here and there. He's almost 50 but he still got it...I mean stage presence.

Teni The Entertainer (Nigeria)

She had the most fun on stage inviting a total stranger on stage to show her some love. The poor gut was reluctant but trust Teni 😂 She showed made him feel comfortable (I guess) by letting touch her where necessary 😉 😜 There was a lot of laughter during her performance. Her song 'Uyo Meyo' is always my favorite.

Rotimi (Nigerian-American)

The crowd went wild when he was introduced. I was kinda surprised he made it to the event. I had no idea he was among the line-ups. He killed his performance for 'Love Riddim'. Great guy!

Jah Prayzah (Zimbabwe)

I honestly can't remember how this guy performed 😜😝😄 but all I know he that he has a good voice and he is tall, handsome and with dreds 😍. He cute and whatever 😝 That qualifies him to be in one of my high moments.

The in-between(s)

Casanova, Eddy Kenzo and Afro B were just alright. I really did not care as much. I left during Eddy Kenzo's  performance, towards the end, around 11:38 pm (due to a serious emergency). I thought TuFace aka 2Baba was going to close out the show. He left this message below so I thought he was going to perform...

I hope he finally performed, if not I prayed he feels better soon. 🙌

Tiwa Savage couldn't make it as well and she has an excuse...

Awwww! I also pray she feels better as well. 🙏

Finally...The 2 MAJOR performances I missed and I haven't recovered from my regret 😭😭😭😭😭

Burna Boy (Nigeria) 😭😭😭😭😭😭

I left the venue due an emergency and it cost me seeing this amazing man perform 😭 I consoled myself with the video below...I'm still weeping 😭

Tekno (Nigeria)

I'm not a huge fan of his but fact still remains that he's one of the major acts. I would have still grooved if I was there...
